What a BEAUTIFUL Day it was!

COURSE

Just over four Nautical Miles, conditions were almost ideal this year but in years past they have gone from placid to intimidating, with mixed/unpredictable swells, shifting/high winds, and fog. Even in the most ideal conditions it is best attmpted by experienced rowers and crews in safe, traditional rowing craft. Chase boats were in place monitoring while also acting as key checkpoints for the course.

A Note On the Date of this Event: CMI deeply regrets the unavoidable conflict with Rosh Hashanah this year-we hope observing rowers can join us in 2027.

This year our surfski category made an impressive showing by establishing a new course record of 37 minutes 28 seconds- Way to go Rob Foley!

SMALL BOATS

Such as 15' and larger coastal racers, sea kayaks, surfskis, etc. were welcome in 2026!

Because this is a challenging course, participants must submit a qualifying result from a similar race (e.g., Blackburn, Snow Row) to the Program Director prior to registering. For questions, contact Frank Townsend at [email protected] or 413-695-7369.

LOGISTICS

For larger boats that can not be shouldered, CMI reserves 6-7 parking spots so that you launch from the Cohasset Harbor boat ramp at 40 Parker Avenue (CMI’s Boathouse & HQ) and then make a leisurely paced row to Sandy Beach (about 30 minutes).

Trailers aren't allowed on the beach, so boats are hand-carried and for larger boats we encourage a bow trailer and rollers to make the task of pushing boats down and back the long beach a bit easier.

All boats participating are met with our CMI safety check team on Sandy Beach (or at Parker Avenue) prior to collecting their boat number. Each boat must have a tethered bailer or working pump, and compass. Sufficient PFDs for all on board. Each participant must carry or wear a USCG-approved PFD (life jacket), and each participant must carry an attention-getting noisemaker, such as a whistle on a lanyard or a horn. Please bring a waterproof bag for course map.
